Dangerous Doctors

It’s a fabulous time of year for fantasy enthusiasts–readers, writers, and watchers alike. Vampires, gypsies, and mad doctors lurk around every corner. I even spotted Sadness from Inside Out. And it made me wonder, what do our costume choices say about us?

Did that adorable little girl with the blue-painted face think it would be hilarious to dress as Sadness? Or did she identify with that character? Or was it an easy-peasy outfit to pull together?

As a youth I dressed as a gypsy for years. It reflected my sense that I was a free spirit, a little outside mainstream. But it was also super easy. Need a quick costume? Pull out the fake gold jewelry and castanets. A little heavy makeup, skirts and scarves and we’re done!

Halloween is a great time to explore a side of yourself that isn’t normally front and center. Who wouldn’t want to dress as a creepy spider lady for a night or a glittering princess (ok, maybe most guys wouldn’t). But I draw the line at food. And giant animals. Why? Not quite sure.

Some people aren’t into punny costumes, but I think they’re great. One year I was a ceiling fan. All I had to do was wear a hat with “Go Ceilings!” written on it. Another time I dressed as a pest control technician. It took a little effort but was so worth it whenever someone noticed my children were dressed as a bat, spider, ladybug, and bumblebee. Hee hee….wicked sense of humor, I know.

In honor of one of my fave holidays, here’s a clip of what our world might look like if it were always Halloween.
