Three Tips: How Not to be Eaten Undersea

So here’s the deal. You’re stuck undersea with only your wits to keep you alive. You know how to evade Rusalka, how to battle shock mages, how to escape volcanoes. We’ve covered what to eat and what not to eat. But the glaring hole in your survival plan is how to avoid being eaten yourself. So here’s a few tips!

Great White Shark

  1. Avoid looking like food. Most undersea predators prefer certain tasty morsels. Sharks love snatching a mouthful of dolphin, for instance. So, don’t wear gray or black and white. Above all, don’t dress in dolphin skin and paddle around shark-infested waters while screeching.

    Sea lettuce

  2. Avoid smelling like food. If you cut yourself on your favorite seashell or broken-down artifact, STOP BLEEDING!! Sea lettuce (enteromorpha) has been shown to act as a coagulant. Whether it’s better to eat it or apply it to the wound is a open to debate. Brown seaweed, on the other hand, has the potential to thin your blood and prevent clotting. So steer clear of that. Best plan of all-find a healer mage to fix you up.

    Kappa

  3. If near Japan, keep on the lookout for kappas. These are known to lure humans and sprites to their death with the intent of drinking their blood, devouring their liver, or stealing their magical powers. We’d recommend against all three. While some kappas can be friendly (especially to women), use extreme caution in any interaction with them. It is highly advisable to come armed with nets, octopus ink (to cloud the water), and empath mages who can block the kappas’ mental influence.
