OWFI 2014 Writers Conference

What a wonderful weekend I’ve had, reconnecting with old friends, making new ones and filling my brain to bursting at the OWFI (Oklahoma Writers’ Federation, Inc) conference. For me, this is a great way to amp up my writing efforts.

Highlights this year–

  • Children’s Book Writing Classes by Darleen Bailey Beard, author of many books including the picture book Twister (great reading for kids like mine, living in tornado alley). She offered wonderful writing and presentation advice as well as first page critiques. Thank you, thank you!
  • Crafting a Successful Query by agent Maria Vicente. Great info, especially on what goes in the pitch paragraph. Check out her awesome blog, Ibelieveinstory.com for fabulous writing tips that just might help you keep your sanity while trying to land a book deal.
  • Finding Your Audience Online by agent Amanda Luedeke. This woman knows how to connect and where to find the people who want to connect with you! Essential info for every author.

Highlights for me–

My MG fantasy novel, The Underwater Witness Protection Program (also known as Sparks) won second place in the Middle Grade Book category at OWFI. Check out my expression of shock and delight!!

My White Witch from Narnia costume won the best character costume. Pictured below with my writing buddies, Doris Degner (Miss Havisham) and Deb Farris (Bridget Jones). What a blast!

What inspires you to keep writing or plugging away at a favorite hobby?
